Ooty is located between Nilgiri mountain so tourist come here throughout the year but the best time to visit Ooty is monsoon or winters. If you visit Ooty in summers then of course you will not be able to to view the heart touching beauty of Ooty compared to monsoon and winters.

ROAD TO OOTY

Now we will talk about how can you reach Ooty and what will be the travel expenses. There are three ways to go Ooty. You can go by car, train or flight. If you want to travel by flight the nearest airport will be Udagamandalam airport in Coimbatore. Flights are available from all over India to Coimbatore. Distance between Coimbatore to Ooty in 94.7 km which can further be travelled in 2-2.5 hours. You can also use taxi and cab services from Coimbatore to Ooty and it will cost you nearly Rs 900-1100. Flight from Mumbai to Coimbatore available between 2500-3500 Indian rupees in summer and may vary according to seasons. The same flights from Bangalore to Coimbatore will cost anyway between 1500 to 2500 Indian currency. The Bangalore to Ooty distance is also 290 Kms, which can easily be covered by car as well as in 6 to 7 hours.

Train options are also available like "The Nilgiri express" runs every night from Chennai. Lots of another trains are also available which you can search on IRCTC. If you take train from Chennai, next morning your train will arrive at Mettupalayam, a small town in Nilgiri. The nearest railway station to Ooty is Mettupalayam. From Mettupalayam several options like steam engine, trains, buses and cabs are available to reach Ooty.

Now after reaching Ooty various travel means are available like private cars, cabs and bus booking services. Bus services are quite cheap compared to taxi and cab. Bus booking will just cost Rs 150 to 200 per person, whereas taxi and cab can cost you anywhere between Rs 900-1100 INR.

Botanical Garden, Ooty

Ooty botanical garden also known as government botanical garden. The botanical garden, Ooty came into to existence from 1947. You can get 650 species of plants and trees. If you are interested must visit the Botanical garden, Ooty.

KODAIKANAL

Kodaikanal Mountains

The meaning of Kodaikanal in Tamil language means "The Gift of Forest". Kodaikanal is a city in the hills of Dindigul district of Tamilnadu State. It is a popular tourist destination due to low crowd and good environment. Kodaikanal is located 250 kilometres away from Ooty. There are no train or flight facility available from Ooty to Kodaikanal.The best way to reach Kodaikanal from Ooty is cab facility. The roads of Munnar become dark enough due to absence of street lights therefore it is advisable to travel in daylight. A two days trip will be enough to completely visit Kodaikanal.

AVALANCHE BIOSPHERE RESERVE

Avalanche Biosphere Reserve

Avalanche biosphere reserve is located at a distance of 20 km from Ooty. You can collect tickets from here and go for jungle safari, if you wish. This is a dense forest. If you are interested in forest visit and trekking, please go. The best season for visiting avalanche biosphere reserve in between June to September. Don't forget to bring rain jacket and raincoat.

DODDABETTA PEAK

Doddabetta Peak

The highest peak of Ooty is known as doddabetta peak. It is 2623 metres in altitude, which is highest point in Ooty. A mesmerizing view of the hill station can be taken from here.

MYSORE

Maharaja's Palace, Mysore

Mysore is very clean and safe city and Mysore can be used as a halting station when you travel from Chennai or Bangalore to Ooty. There are not much places to visit but you can enjoy visiting Maharaja's palace, dancing fountains at Brindavan garden and night walks in the roads of Mysore. Mysore is located at a distance of 125 km from Ooty. The the most easiest way of reaching Mysore is Tata Indica. Tourist can also use public bus transport services to go Mysore.

DODDABETTA TEA PARK

Just beside doddabetta peak, doddabetta tea park is located. Visitors must go there to know how they everyday necessity is planted and finally packaged. If not allowed to go there don't worry there are other tea parks which you can visit and take information.

SAINT STEPHEN'S CHURCH

This beautiful church of Ooty is situated in Ooty Mysore road. In spite of being famous this Church is also counted in one of the most old churches of India. Saint Stephen's Church is famous for its architecture. The view of paintings and glass artwork in windows of this Church are truly hypnotizing.

MUDUMALAI NATIONAL PARK

Madumalai National Park

This is a tiger reserve located at a distance of 60 kilometres from Ooty. Here you can see multiple and endangered species of plants and animals. Various kinds of birds are also found here. The Theppakadu elephant camp is an wonderful place for childrens.

COONOOR

Coonoor  is 44 kms away from Ooty. The most convenient way to reach coonoor is cab service. Coonoor is absolutely for women and it has a record of zero crime rate against women. Also it's crime rate is very low. So yes, you can enjoy your holidays in Coonoor. Coonoor is a beautiful picturesque place for photogenic people. MURUGAN TEMPLE

Murugan temple is a holy religious place in Ooty which is situated in Elk hill. The temple is dedicated to God Murugan whose 40 feet tall statue can be seen here and this place is 1000 years old according to some beliefs.

This is a wonderful and beautiful place in Ooty which is very popular among tourist visiting Ooty. Here you can see thread maded artificial flowers and plants, and most amazingly these artworks have been made only with hands without needle. PYKARA FALLS

Pykara Falls

Beautiful pykara falls is located approximately 19 km away from Ooty near pykara village that's why this is called pykara falls. Tourist can enjoy water boat, motor boat rides as well as boating here. During monsoon this waterfall flows at its full flow and it is worth looking. This place is open for tourist from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

OOTY LAKE

Ooty Lake

This lake is spread on about 65 acres and it is a popular place for tourism in Ooty. It is man made Lake and according to peoples fisherman's made this Lake for fishing. Tourist can enjoy boating in still water. Each year boat race is organised by State Government in this lake which is witnessed by many visitors.

NILGIRI MOUNTAIN RAILWAY

Nilgiri Mountain Railway

Almost a hundred years old this is a historical train, which travels the distance of 40 km between coonoor and Udagamandalam in 5 hours. Due to its historical Heritage UNESCO included it in World Heritage site in 2005. This gives a lifetime memory of the view of Nilgiri mountain and sceneries to tourists.

GOVERNMENT ROSE GARDEN

Ths is India's one of the beautiful and popular Rose garden which is located in Vijayanagar area of Ooty. Rose garden is spread in 4 hectares and is earlier known as Jayalalitha rose garden. Tourist can visit more than 20,000 groups of rose here.

NILGIRI MOUNTAINS

Located at a distance of 17 km from Ooty, Nilgiri mountain ranges are amazingly beautiful and full of energy to visit. The highest peak in Nilgiri is doddabetta hill. The tea plantations are also worth watching. The most entertaining feature of this place is it's toy train which is a 46 km ride and start from Mettupalayam and travel through bridges, mountains and curves to reach Ooty in 5 hours. This is a steam engine train. It starts from a height of 300 feet and ends on 7200 feet and  is definitely a ride to cherish.

EMERALD LAKE

This is located at an approximate distance of 22 kilometre from Ooty City. Emerald lake is located under silent valley National park. This whole place is known for its silent environment and wild trees. Believe me this place is not less than heaven for nature lovers and for this reason many couples come here to spend quality time.

WENLOCK DOWNS 9TH MILE SHOOTING POINT

Wenlock Downs 9th Mile Shooting Point, Ooty

Shooting point is famous for horse riding and tracking. This place is quite sloppy and you need to climb a hillock to fully enjoy 360° view of nature. Various film shootings regularly happen here.

TIGER HILLS

Only the daring ones can visit this place. Most people doesn't know about this because there are no government road or Highway to reach tiger hills. If you want to visit tiger hills you have to cross some private areas. Morning time is beautiful for photogenic persons and it is advisable to come in groups here.

KOTAGIRI

Kotagiri is a  hill station 33 kilometres southeast of Ooty. It is the third largest hill station in Nilgiri district in the state of Tamil Nadu. This is said that kotagiri has world's best climate. Kotagiri is located at an altitude of around 1850 metres from sea level. Some of the popular tourist destination in kotagiri are Catherine waterfalls, TN 43 shop, Longwood shola reserve forest etc.

so overall sight seeing and day trips by booking car or cabs will be quite easy for you.

If you talk about expenses, Ooty hotels and resorts can cost you from 1500 to 2000 INR anywhere depending upon season. It will also increase during peak tourism seasons. Meals can cost you around 3000 INR for 3 days for 2 adults and you will need around 4500 INR for conveyance in accordance with 1500 rupees per day for 3 days.
